Habitat Banking

Habitat banks are used to restore, create or preserve natural habitat in advance of permitted environmental impacts.  There are two common types: mitigation and conservation banking. ENTRIX is experienced with both.

Mitigation banking primarily protects wetlands, ensuring “no net loss” of wetlands functions and values. Typically, smaller wetlands are consolidated into larger more environmentally valuable and sustainable sites. In conservation banking, land is protected and permanently set aside for endangered, threatened, and at-risk species.  Under both banking scenarios, developers or other project proponents may purchase credits from habitat bank owners to compensate for potential adverse project effects on species and the environment. This process provides assurances for project proponents that their project may proceed while it also provides assurances to resource management agencies that resources will be conserved.

ENTRIX has been involved in mitigation and conservation banking, for over 25 years through policy development, permitting, and operation.  ENTRIX has developed excellent relationships with existing habitat bankers, landowners of prospective bank sites, as well as regulatory agency staff across the country.
