Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) - Featured Service

2009-06-03

ASR is a water management tool whereby aquifers are used as a reservoir to store excess water that is later withdrawn for use. Commonly in this process, aquifer zones containing brackish water are flushed by displacement with fresh water. Fresh water can then be stored in either treated or untreated form. ASR well systems can store more than a billion gallons of treated potable water and later withdraw this water for direct distribution to water customers.Water Resource StorageIn areas where water availability is limited on a seasonal basis, excess water can be stored in the subsurface in very large volumes during wet periods and later withdrawn during dry periods to meet demands. ASR can function in the manner of a traditional surface reservoir. Aquifer storage eliminates evaporative losses and minimizes environmental impacts. Many types of water can be stored with minimal or no pretreatment.Wastewater Reuse Systems - Wet Season StorageFor ... more >>

Greene and Lee contributed Chapter 4 entitled, “Social and Economic Impacts of the Loricariid Catfish in Florida.” Economic losses and the environmental impact caused by invasive species exceed $100 billion dollars annually in the United States alone. An example of this impact is the zebra mussel, which has caused nearly $1 billion in damages, according to the New York Sea Grant Report. In southwest Mexico, the unintentional introduction of a nonnative fish species, the armored catfish, or plecostomus, in the Infiernillo reservoir has had a severe impact on local fisheries in Guerrero and Michoacán, affecting the quality of life ... more >>

This ceremony was the culmination of approximately four years of effort to create a small, but significant, wetland preserve and environmental education area on the campus of Knights Elementary School. This team effort grew out of the energy and resources of the school administration, faculty and students, as well as several funding agencies and private partners. One of the primary private-sector funding and manpower sources for the project was CF Industries, which is a long-term and key ENTRIX client. Beth Wertschnig of our Tampa office came to ENTRIX after a decade of employment at CF Industries as an ecological restoration specialist.
